Tandem Health lets the doctor look at the patient, not the screen

The computer has become a third participant in the consultation, and Tandem Health's AI assistant exists to make it less present. In healthtech, the brand has to be built on trust and clinical quality — not disruption. The stories belong to the doctors themselves.

Many medical appointments now include a third participant nobody actually invited: the computer. The doctor listens, types, clicks and tries to hold on to the conversation with the patient at the same time. Sweden's Tandem Health uses AI to document the encounter automatically, and appears on Wired UK's list of Europe's hottest startups.

The product works as a medical assistant that listens to the conversation and helps produce the clinical notes. For the doctor, that means less admin. For the patient, it can mean more actual eye contact.

Trust has to come before the technology

Healthtech companies face a different branding task than most SaaS businesses. No patient is reassured by hearing that an AI is "disruptive", and hospitals rarely choose systems because the logo looks futuristic.

Tandem therefore needs to build its brand around safety, clinical quality and the human relationship the technology is meant to make room for.

That is a considerably stronger story than simply selling automated documentation.

BBMB's recommendation: show the people

I would work far more with concrete accounts from doctors and clinical staff. How does a shift change when the admin load drops? What does the patient notice? Which small parts of the encounter get better?

That kind of storytelling makes the technology comprehensible without the company having to promise more than the product can deliver. BBMB's work with strategic storytelling rests on exactly this: making value concrete through people and real situations.

The leadership team should also take a clearer position in the debate about AI and the future of healthcare. A Swedish growth company working at the centre of such a sensitive shift needs visible people who can reason about both the possibilities and the limits.

Good AI should be less noticeable

Tandem Health's strongest brand promise may be that the technology makes itself less present in the room. If the doctor can set aside part of the admin and actually meet the patient, the AI is no longer the main character.

That is probably exactly as it should be.
